The new Honda Civic made waves in the compact segment with a new sporty style and a major increase in power while maintaining the Civic’s signature high fuel economy. Even with a new design and powerful engine, drivers have still been asking for one more major development to the popular car. Now, Honda is answering. The long-awaited Honda Civic hatchback is on the way and will launch in time for the 2017 model year.
Riding on the same platform as the sedan and coupe models, the hatchback will only be available with turbocharged engines. A 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine will produce 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque in the LX, EX, and EX-L trims, while in the Sport and Sport Touring trims, power increases to 180 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque.
All models will have an available continuously variable transmission while the LX, EX, and EX-L will offer a six-speed manual transmission. Honda hasn’t released pricing information just yet but has confirmed that the hatchback will release for the 2017 model year.
With the Paris Auto Show right around the corner, Honda is expected to show off the Civic Type-R. While the hatchback will arrive this fall, don’t expect the Civic Type-R to arrive until 2018.
