The 2017 Honda Civic Type R is an all-new performance version of the popular compact Civic. The Type R adds a 2.0-liter inline-four engine that puts out 306 horsepower, making for the most powerful Honda ever sold commercially in the US. The Civic Type R is already on sale as of June 14.
The Civic Type R, a coupe with i-VTEC variable valve timing and a standard manual transmission, is the first vehicle to wear the new Type R name, but more Type R performance vehicles from Honda are bound to come in the future.
The Civic Type R offers exceptional handling thanks to mechanical additions like a dual-axis strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, exclusive springs, anti-roll bars, and Honda’s Adaptive Damper System. The Type R comes with three drive modes, Comfort, Sport, and +R, which change the throttle response, brakes, and Damper System according to the driver’s preference.
The Civic Type R is available in one trim, Touring, which comes with an aerodynamics package, a 7-inch driver information screen and 7-inch touchscreen, and it will get 28 MPG* on the highway.
